Mapping Lost Aircraft

One week after the disappearance of the Malaysian aircraft, flight MH370, the world's news agencies are still intrigued by the fact that we seem no nearer to discovering the plane's fate. According to the Aviation Safety Network over the past 50 years dozens of planes have vanished without trace.

CBC has created a Google Map plotting incidents of missing aircraft which carried at least 20 passengers. Planes that Vanished Without a Trace shows the departure airport of each aircraft and a line marking the plane's general direction (however without great circle routes applied). If you click on a plane's marker on the map you can find out more about its intended destination and the nature of the flight.
