Binning or Point Maps?

If you can't decide on whether to use binning or point data for your map then why not use both? The NYC Collision Map is a nice combination of binning and point data to visualize the most dangerous intersections in New York City.

The map uses NYPD data of almost three years of motor vehicle collisions. If you select a hexagon from the static map a small inset Leaflet map opens showing the point data for each intersection covered by the binned area. You can filter the data on the map to show only motorist, cyclist or pedestrian injuries. It is also possible to filter the data to show only collisions which led to a fatality.
